The Republic P-47N was the final developmental stage of the Thunderbolt family, adapted for long-range escort missions and fighter-bomber operations in the Pacific theater. The N-1RE variant introduced new wings with a greater span and square tips, along with additional fuel capacity, while maintaining the robust construction and powerful armament of earlier versions.

The P-47 Thunderbolt, known as the "Jug," was one of the most important American fighters of World War II. This aircraft was famous for its extraordinary damage resistance and immense firepower provided by eight .50 caliber machine guns. The N version was specifically designed for the vast distances over the Pacific Ocean, which required a radical increase in operational range.
