History and background of the design: The VK 3002(DB) was one of the projects aimed at creating a modern medium tank that could effectively compete with the Soviet T-34. German engineers, inspired by the success of the T-34, decided to adapt some of its features, such as sloped armor and large road wheels. The tank was to be equipped with a diesel engine with a rear transmission and external fuel tanks, which was an innovative solution at the time.

Despite the VK 3002(DB) being a promising project, it was ultimately not selected for mass production. After field tests, the competing design from MAN, later known as the PzKpfw V Panther, was deemed superior. This decision was influenced by, among other things, the more modern suspension and more spacious turret of the MAN tank, which facilitated production and maintenance.

Although the VK 3002(DB) did not enter mass production, its design and testing contributed to the development of German engineering in tank construction. This prototype is an excellent example of the influence of Soviet designs on German military projects during World War II.
