Vehicle history:

The C4P is a Polish half-track artillery tractor that played a significant role in the Polish army in the 1930s. Its history dates back to 1934 when it was designed at the Bureau of Technical Research for Armored Weapons (BBT BP) in Warsaw. The main designer of the vehicle was engineer E. Habich. The C4P was the Polish derivative version of the 2.5-ton Polski FIAT-621 truck, produced under Italian license since 1932.

The design of the C4P utilized many elements from the truck, such as a shortened and reinforced frame, engine, and modified driver's cabin. A key change was the replacement of the rear axle with a tracked mechanism inspired by French Citroën-Kegresse designs and the suspension of the Vickers E tank. The vehicle featured modern solutions, including a rubber-metal track without pins, designed by engineer L. Białkowski, and later modernized by engineer Michalak.

Serial production of the C4P began in 1935 at the PZInż factories in Czechowice near Warsaw and lasted until 1938. By the outbreak of World War II, around 400 vehicles were built in various versions, of which at least 80 were C4P artillery tractors. This vehicle was generally successful, although it had its drawbacks, such as high fuel consumption and a somewhat underpowered engine.
