Plastic model car kit: Porsche 944 Turbo 1:24 Hasegawa 20563
For the 1986 model year, Porsche introduced the 944 Turbo, internally known as the 951. The Porsche 944 Turbo featured a turbocharged and intercooled version of the standard 944 engine, generating 162 kW at 6,000 rpm. In 1987, Car and Driver tested the 944 Turbo and achieved a 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) time of 5.9 seconds. The Turbo was the first production car from Porsche to use a ceramic insert in the exhaust port to maintain exhaust gas temperature along with new forged pistons, and it was also the first vehicle to produce identical power with and without a catalytic converter. The Porsche 944 Turbo also had several other changes, such as improved aerodynamics, especially the integrated front bumper. The Turbo featured the widest turn signals mounted on any production car, a reinforced transmission with a different final drive ratio, standard external oil coolers for both the engine and transmission, standard 16-inch wheels (optional forged Fuchs wheels), and slightly stiffer suspension (progressive springs) to handle the additional weight. The front and rear brakes of the Porsche 944 Turbo were borrowed from the 911, with 4-piston fixed Brembo calipers and 12-inch rotors.
