History and use of PzKpfw II: The Panzerkampfwagen II, also known as PzKpfw II, was a German light tank that entered service in the 1930s. Its production began in response to the need for a tank that could support infantry on the battlefield. This tank was armed with a 20 mm caliber gun, which made it less effective in engagements with other tanks but sufficient to support infantry.

The PzKpfw II was used on many fronts during World War II, including the September campaign in Poland, where it constituted a significant part of the German armored forces. In this campaign, PzKpfw II tanks suffered considerable losses, mainly due to their thin armor, which made them vulnerable to fire from Polish anti-tank weapons, such as Bofors guns and wz. 35 anti-tank rifles. Nevertheless, these tanks were a key element of the German blitzkrieg strategy, enabling rapid and surprising attacks.

As the war progressed, the PzKpfw II was gradually replaced by more advanced medium tanks, such as the PzKpfw III and PzKpfw IV. However, its chassis served as a basis for the construction of other military vehicles, including self-propelled guns, tank destroyers, command vehicles, and ammunition carriers.

Historical significance: The PzKpfw II was one of the first tanks used by the Wehrmacht in large numbers. As of May 1, 1937, the German armed forces had 115 tanks of this type, and this number increased to 823 by October 1938. These tanks were also sent to Spain as part of aid to General Franco's nationalist army, where it quickly became apparent that their armor was insufficient in engagements with Soviet T-26 tanks.

During the September campaign in Poland, PzKpfw II accounted for about 35% of the total German tanks. Although they were easy targets for Polish anti-tank weapons, they played a crucial role in the rapid advance of German forces. In the later years of the war, these tanks were mainly used for reconnaissance and anti-partisan tasks.
