History and significance of Pz.Kpfw. IV: The Panzerkampfwagen IV, commonly known as the Panzer IV, was a German medium tank developed in the late 1930s. It was the most widely produced German tank during World War II, with a total of 8,553 units manufactured. The Panzer IV was used on all fronts where German forces fought and was the only German tank that remained in production throughout the war.

Initially designed as an infantry support tank, the Panzer IV eventually took on the role of the main battle tank, especially after encountering the Soviet T-34 and KV-1, which forced the Germans to modernize their armament. The Ausf. F2 version, and later the G, was equipped with the modern KwK 40 L/43 anti-tank gun, which significantly enhanced its combat capabilities. The Ausf. G version introduced additional modifications, such as increasing the thickness of the frontal armor to 80 mm and adding side anti-cumulative shields.
