Historical characteristics of the Panther tank:

The Panzerkampfwagen V Panther, also known as Sd.Kfz. 171, was designed in response to the Soviet T-34 tank and was intended to replace the older Panzer III and Panzer IV models. Nevertheless, it served alongside the Panzer IV and the heavier Tiger I until the end of the war. The Panther was distinguished by better gun penetration, was lighter and faster than the Tiger I, allowing it to maneuver better over difficult terrain. However, its side armor was weaker, making it vulnerable to flank fire.

The Panther tank was particularly effective in open terrain and during long-range engagements. Despite initial reliability issues that emerged during the Battle of Kursk in 1943, most design flaws were eliminated by the end of 1943. The Ausf.G version, produced from March 1944 to January 1945, was the most widely produced version of this tank, with 3,740 units manufactured.
