History of the PZL W-3 Sokół: The PZL W-3 Sokół is a multi-role helicopter that was created as a result of cooperation between the Polish PZL Świdnik factories and the Mila design bureau from the USSR. The project aimed to create a modern machine that would replace older models such as the Mi-4. The first prototype was completed in 1978, and the official first flight took place on May 6, 1982. Serial production began in 1987, and the helicopter quickly gained popularity due to its versatility and reliability.

Production and development: The PZL W-3 Sokół was produced in various versions, including transport, rescue, and armed. The helicopter underwent many upgrades, including the Głuszec program, which aimed to adapt the machines to NATO standards. Versions such as the W-3PL Głuszec were equipped with modern avionics, self-defense systems, and armament, significantly enhancing their combat capabilities.

Operation: The PZL W-3 Sokół helicopter was widely used in both civil and military operations. In Poland, it served in the Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue Service, participating in rescue operations in difficult mountain conditions. In the Polish military, the Sokół was used for transport, medical evacuation, and combat support. These helicopters were also part of the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq, where they performed various tasks, from road monitoring to fire support.

Disasters and accidents: Unfortunately, the history of the PZL W-3 Sokół's operation is not free from tragic events. In 2004, in Iraq, one of the Sokół helicopters was destroyed in an accident, resulting in the deaths of several crew members.
