Plastic military model kit: French Renault YS Command Tank 1:72 First To Fight PL127
The Renault YS was a French command tank and radio communications vehicle whose roots date back to the interwar period. The vehicle was developed for the French ground forces as a direct evolution of the AMR35 light tank. Although design work began as early as 1931, a prolonged technical evaluation process meant that the first units entered service only in 1937.
Compared to its predecessor, the Renault YS underwent significant structural modifications:
- The upper part of the hull was completely rebuilt.
- The rotating turret with armament was removed, and a characteristic rectangular casemate was installed in its place.
- The 85 HP engine was moved to the front of the vehicle.
- The interior was equipped with specialized short- and medium-range radio equipment.
The vehicle measured approximately 3.8 m in length and 1.8 m in width, and its armor did not exceed 13 mm. It was assumed that the Renault YS would serve as a mobile command post at the battalion or regimental level. It is estimated that no more than 10 fully operational vehicles of this type reached frontline units, which most likely took part in the fighting during the French campaign in 1940.
The plastic model from the Polish manufacturer First To Fight allows for a precise representation of this rare and interesting design in 1:72 scale.
