History and achievements of the Ricoh Skyline GTS-R (R31): The Ricoh Skyline GTS-R (R31) is a car that debuted in 1985 as a natural evolution of the R30 model. It was the seventh model in the Skyline series, also known as "Seventhsu" or "7th Sukairain". This model was available in various body styles, including sedan, hardtop sedan, coupe, and wagon. The Skyline R31 introduced many modern technologies, such as a new series of RB engines, which were known as "Red Top" due to their red camshaft covers.
One of the most technologically advanced solutions in the R31 was the introduction of the HICAS (High Capacity Active Steering) four-wheel steering system, which made it unique in the Skyline family. The GTS-R version was the most advanced version of the R31, equipped with the RB20DET-R engine with a larger turbocharger and intercooler, allowing it to achieve 210 PS in the factory version, and in racing versions even over 430 PS.
Racing successes: The GTS-R model gained recognition on racetracks, particularly in Japan and Australia. In 1988, during the Japanese Touring Car Championship (JTC), the car driven by the duo Aguri Suzuki and Anders Olofsson achieved two victories at the season opener. In Australia, Jim Richards and Mark Skaife, driving the Skyline GTS-R prepared by Gibson Motor Sport, won the Sandown 500 race in 1989. Richards also won the title of champion of the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1990, which was the first such achievement for a Nissan driver.
