History of RMS Titanic: RMS Titanic, built by the British line White Star Line, was one of the most luxurious and modern ships of its time. Its maiden voyage began on April 10, 1912, from Southampton, England, to New York City. Titanic was known for its extraordinary opulence, offering passengers luxuries that could compete with the best hotels of that era. On board, there were seven grand staircases, four elevators, a swimming pool, a Turkish bath, and a post office.

The ship measured 883 feet in length and 93 feet in width, and was powered by two triple-expansion steam engines and a low-pressure Parsons steam turbine, allowing it to achieve a cruising speed of 21 knots and a maximum speed of over 24 knots. Titanic could accommodate 2,500 passengers and 900 crew members. Despite its size and modern solutions, Titanic had only 20 lifeboats, which was in accordance with contemporary regulations but insufficient in the face of disaster.

On April 14, 1912, Titanic collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic, leading to the flooding of more than two of its watertight compartments. Within two hours and forty minutes of the collision, the ship sank, taking with it over 1,500 people. The Titanic disaster had a significant impact on future maritime safety regulations, including the requirement for sufficient lifeboats for all passengers and crew, and the establishment of the International Ice Patrol in 1914.
