About the K311A1 vehicle: The K311A1 is a 4x4 multi-purpose truck of 1 1/4 ton class, developed for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea and introduced into service in 1980. This vehicle is commonly known as "4-5 ton" or "military Dodge," as it replaced and had a similar appearance to the Dodge M37. The K311A1 is an upgraded version of the American Kaiser Jeep M715 truck, which was also designed to replace the M37.

The production of the K311A1 truck was carried out by Asia Motors until Hyundai merged this company with Kia Motors in 1999. The export version of the vehicle is called KM450, which is widely used outside South Korea for both old and new variants.

History and development: In June 2000, Kia Motors signed a contract with a Turkish company and began a Product Improvement Program (PIP) for the K131, K311, and K511 series. The export plan was canceled due to the economic crisis in Turkey in 2001. Nevertheless, Kia Motors, which had already invested significant financial resources, decided that it could not halt the project and invested a total of 10.43 billion KRW to complete the program by April 2003.
