History and development of TACAM T-60: TACAM T-60, or "Tun Anticar pe Afet Mobil T-60", was a Romanian tank destroyer used during World War II. It was created as a result of modifications to captured Soviet light tanks T-60, from which the turrets were removed and replaced with captured Soviet field gun M-1936 F-22 of 76.2 mm caliber. In 1943, 34 such vehicles were built, which participated in the Jassy-Kishinev offensive and the Budapest offensive.
Construction and technical features: TACAM T-60 was equipped with the M-1936 F-22 field gun mounted on the T-60 tank chassis. The gun was protected by a three-sided shield made of 15 mm thick armor, sourced from captured Soviet BT-7 tanks. The vehicle could carry 44 rounds for the main gun. Additional armament included a heavy machine gun ZB-53 and a submachine gun. The chassis was also modified to accommodate the additional weight of the gun by introducing stronger torsion bars and new road wheels.
Operational history: By the end of 1943, 34 vehicles were converted in Bucharest. Sixteen of them were assigned to the 61st Tacam Company, and eighteen to the 62nd Tacam Company. These vehicles were used as needed, and in February 1944, an ad hoc Armored Group Cantemir was formed, which reinforced the defense of northern Transnistria. After Romania defected to the Allies in August 1944, all surviving vehicles were confiscated by the Soviets.
