Description
Plastic military model kit: Sankas WWII Wehrmacht Ambulance Trucks 1:35 ICM DS3523
A set of plastic models depicting three different German Wehrmacht ambulances from the Second World War period, commonly known in soldier folklore as "Sanka" (short for Sanitätskraftwagen - Medical Motor Vehicle). All medical support tasks for the Wehrmacht were carried out by the Army Medical Service (Sanitätskorps der Armee).
The ambulance vehicles used for evacuating the wounded were most often adaptations of standard military and civilian vehicles. They were equipped with enclosed bodies with stretchers and appropriate Red Cross markings, usually painted in a white circle or square.
The set includes three complete vehicle models:
- Type 2.5-32 (based on the Opel Blitz truck)
- V3000S/SS M Maultier (half-track ambulance carrier)
- Lastkraftwagen 3.5t AHN (truck of French Renault design)
Historical background:
- Sd.Kfz. 3 Maultier: A series of half-track vehicles created in response to the difficult terrain conditions on the Eastern Front. Replacing the rear axle with a track drive (based on solutions from Panzer I and II tanks) significantly improved mobility in mud and snow.
- Renault AHN: A French design with a characteristic cab with a sloped front. After the capitulation of France in 1940, production continued for the German army, where the vehicle served mainly as a means of transport and a base for specialized vehicles.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including nippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
