History and background: The Tiger II, also known as the Konigstiger (Royal Tiger), was the successor to the Tiger I tank and one of the most powerful tanks used by Germany during World War II. It combined the thick armor of the Tiger I with the sloped armor known from the Panther tank, making it difficult to destroy in combat. It was armed with a powerful 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 anti-tank gun, which could destroy enemy tanks from long distances.

The Tiger II was used by the heavy armored battalions of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS. It was first used in combat by the 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion during the Allied invasion of Normandy in July 1944. On the Eastern Front, the first unit equipped with the Tiger II was the 501st Heavy Tank Battalion. Despite its power, the production of the Tiger II was limited due to intense Allied bombings, resulting in only 492 units being produced.

This tank was known for its excellent armor protection and powerful armament, making it a formidable opponent on the battlefield. However, its large mass and complex design made it prone to mechanical failures and mobility issues, especially in difficult terrain.
