Vehicle history:

The Sd.Kfz. 250, known as Sonderkraftfahrzeug 250, was a light armored half-track vehicle used by Germany during World War II. It was designed by DEMAG as a smaller version of the more well-known Sd.Kfz. 251, produced by Hanomag. The first vehicles of this type appeared in 1941, although the decision to produce them was made as early as 1939.

This vehicle was powered by a six-cylinder, water-cooled Maybach engine with an output of 100 HP. With a semi-automatic transmission, the Sd.Kfz. 250 could reach speeds of up to 76 km/h, although it was recommended not to exceed 65 km/h. The steering system combined wheels and tracks, allowing for precise maneuvering.

The Sd.Kfz. 250 was used in various roles, including as an armored transport for reconnaissance units, often armed with MG34 machine guns. Specialized versions, such as the Sd.Kfz. 250/3 and 250/5, were equipped with radio equipment and served as command vehicles. The Sd.Kfz. 253 version was fully enclosed and used by artillery observers.

Production of the first version ended in October 1943, after approximately 4200 units were produced. In later versions, the design was simplified, which facilitated production, but the level of protection remained minimal.
