Historical background: The self-propelled howitzer M110, equipped with a 203 mm caliber gun, entered service in the US Army in 1963. It was used during the Vietnam War, and later versions participated in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The M110A2, being the final version, was equipped with a longer barrel from the M201 series and a double muzzle brake, which increased its range. Although it has been retired from American service, it is still used by other countries, such as Turkey, which employs it in operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party and in interventions in Syria.
The M110 was known for its ability to fire at distances ranging from 16.8 km to 25 km using standard shells, and even up to 30 km with rocket-assisted projectiles. Although the hydraulic shell feeder often malfunctioned, well-trained crews were able to achieve a rate of fire of up to four rounds per minute using a manual feeder.
