The Sopwith Pup, originally known as the Sopwith Scout, was one of the most valued British fighters of the First World War period. Due to its smaller size compared to the Sopwith Strutter model, pilots quickly nicknamed it the “Pup”. This agile biplane of mixed construction entered service in late 1916 and, thanks to its exceptional agility, allowed the Allies to gain an advantage in air combat over German machines such as the Albatros D.III.

Although the Sopwith Pup was armed with only one 7.7 mm Vickers machine gun, nearly 1,800 examples of this fighter were produced. This machine also went down in history as the first aircraft to successfully land on a moving ship on August 2, 1917. After being withdrawn from the front line in mid-1917, where it was replaced by the Sopwith Camel, Pups were used, among other things, to defend the British Isles against Zeppelin raids.
