Model features:

  • Scale: 1:72
  • Manufacturer: ICM
  • Catalog number: 72531

Markings:

  • BTR-152V, Czechoslovak Army, 1960s.
  • BTR-152V, Soviet Army, 1960s.

History and historical background: The BTR-152V is a six-wheeled Soviet armored personnel carrier that was developed based on the chassis and drivetrain of the ZIS-151 truck. Its serial production began in 1950, and this vehicle became the primary armored personnel carrier in Soviet motorized rifle battalions until the introduction of the BTR-60 series in the 1960s.

The BTR-152V was designed in response to the needs of the Red Army, which, after the experiences of World War II, sought vehicles capable of quickly transporting infantry in combat conditions. The BTR-152V could carry an infantry squad or specialized teams with mortars and anti-tank equipment. Variants of this vehicle were also used as artillery tractors and command and communication vehicles.

The BTR-152V featured an open cargo compartment, which increased its vulnerability to fire but also allowed for quick disembarkation by the crew. The vehicle was armed with a 7.62 mm SGMB machine gun, and some versions were equipped with heavier DShK or KPV machine guns. The vehicle's armor protected the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel, but it was insufficient to protect against heavier weaponry.

The BTR-152V and its variants were widely used by the armies of the Warsaw Pact and the armed forces of pro-Soviet countries. These vehicles participated in numerous armed conflicts, including the Arab-Israeli wars, in Angola and Vietnam. In 1956, the BTR-152V was used during the suppression of the Hungarian uprising, and in later years it served in the armies of Egypt, Syria, Libya, Somalia, and many other countries.
