The MiG-3 was a single-seat low-wing fighter with a mixed construction, powered by a 12-cylinder V-engine Mikulin AM-35A with a power of 1350 HP. This aircraft was one of the most widely produced Soviet fighters at the time of the German attack on the USSR. A total of 3172 MiG-3 units were produced.
History of the MiG-3: The MiG-3 was developed as an extension of the earlier MiG-1 model by the design bureau of Mikoyan and Gurevich. This aircraft was mainly used as an interceptor in the air defense system, as well as a reconnaissance aircraft. Its greatest advantage was its ability to operate at high altitudes, making it effective in combat against bombers.
The MiG-3 was used on various fronts, including the defense of Moscow, where it played a key role in combating German air raids. Although its performance at low altitudes was limited, at high altitudes it could compete with German fighters such as the Messerschmitt Bf 109.
