Historical characteristics of the Yak-7B fighter: The Yak-7B is an extension of the earlier Yak-7 model, which in turn originated from the design of the Yak-1 fighter. This aircraft was designed in the Yakovlev design bureau and became one of the main fighters used by the Soviet Air Forces during World War II. It was produced in two main factories: in Novosibirsk and in Moscow.
The Yak-7B was produced from August 1942 to December 1943 in Novosibirsk and from May 1942 to July 1944 in Moscow. A total of 5120 units of this version were produced. These aircraft were used on all fronts until the end of the war, and their combat debut took place in August 1942 over Stalingrad. Although the Yak-7B was mainly used by the Soviet Air Forces, a few units were transferred to the Polish People's Air Force, where they were used for training in the 1st Fighter Aviation Regiment "Warsaw." Small quantities were also used by the aviation of Bulgaria and Yugoslavia.
The Yak-7B, although initially a semi-improvised fighter, became a fully-fledged combat aircraft. Its strong point was its armament, which surpassed some German fighters. However, the aircraft faced quality issues, such as oil overheating and cockpit spraying. Nevertheless, it was easy to pilot and had good flying characteristics.
