History and characteristics of the StuG III:

The Sturmgeschutz III (StuG III) was one of the most important combat vehicles produced by the Third Reich during World War II. It was the most widely produced German fully tracked armored vehicle and the second most produced German combat vehicle after the half-track Sd.Kfz. 251. The StuG III was built on a slightly modified chassis of the Panzer III tank, where the turret was replaced with an armored, fixed superstructure with a more powerful gun.

Initially designed as a mobile assault gun to provide fire support for infantry, the StuG III was gradually modified and, like later Jagdpanzer vehicles, used as a tank destroyer. The Ausf. G version was the last and by far the most numerous of the StuG series. Production of this version lasted from December 1942 to April 1945, with approximately 8,423 units produced.

Characteristics of the Ausf. G version:

  • The superstructure was widened, and the welded boxes on the sides were removed, increasing the vehicle's height to 2160 mm.
  • The rear wall of the fighting compartment was straightened, and the fan on top of the superstructure was moved to the rear of the fighting compartment.
  • As of March 1943, the driver's periscope was eliminated.
  • As of February 1943, production also began at the MIAG company, alongside the existing producer, Alkett.
  • As of May 1943, G models were equipped with side armor skirts (Schürzen) designed to protect against Russian anti-tank rifles and shaped charge ammunition.
  • As of May 1943, 80 mm thick armor plates were used instead of two plates of 50 mm + 30 mm. However, due to backlogs, some vehicles still required additional armor until October 1943.

Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
