History of Sturmgeschutz III Ausf E:

The Sturmgeschutz III (StuG III) is a German assault gun that played a key role during World War II. Its concept was proposed by Erich von Manstein in 1935, who suggested the creation of "assault artillery" units for direct infantry support. In response, Daimler-Benz AG designed a vehicle based on the chassis of the Panzerkampfwagen III tank, armed with a 75 mm gun.

The Ausf E variant, produced from September 1941 to February 1942, was one of the last models equipped with a short-barreled 75 mm gun. A total of 284 units of this version were produced. The E version was primarily used as a command vehicle on the battlefield, made possible by the installation of an additional Fu16 radio station. A distinctive feature of this version was the modified sides of the superstructure and additional armor, which set it apart from earlier models.

The StuG III was one of the most frequently produced armored vehicles by Germany during World War II, with over 10,500 units in various versions. Its low profile and relatively low production costs made it extremely effective on the battlefield. The Ausf E variant, although produced in limited numbers, played an important role as a command and infantry support vehicle.
