Historical background: The Tiger I tank, also known as the Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung E, was one of the most recognizable armored vehicles used by the Wehrmacht during World War II. Its production began in August 1942 and lasted until August 1944, when it was replaced by the more advanced Tiger II model. A total of 1,347 units of the Tiger I were produced.
The Tiger I was the first German tank equipped with the powerful 8.8 cm KwK 36 gun, making it an extremely formidable opponent on the battlefield. This tank was mainly used in independent heavy tank battalions, both on the Eastern Front and in North Africa. Although it was considered an outstanding design, the Tiger I was also criticized for its complicated construction and high production costs.
One of the most famous examples of the Tiger I is Tiger 131, which was captured by British forces during the campaign in North Africa. It is currently the only operational example of this tank and can be admired at the Tank Museum in Bovington, United Kingdom.
