Plastic model aircraft kit: Tu-2T Soviet torpedo bomber 1:72 ICM 72030
The Tupolev Tu-2T is a specialized variant of the serial Tu-2 bomber, modernized for the role of a maritime torpedo bomber. This modification was developed and tested in the spring of 1945. The machine was equipped with special mounts allowing it to carry two 45-36AN torpedoes. The torpedoes could be dropped sequentially or simultaneously, with a special device monitoring the time interval between drops of 0.25 seconds. The aircraft retained the capability to function as a bomber with a payload of up to 3000 kg, and could also be used for laying sea mines.
The history of the Tu-2 design dates back to 1940, when work began under the direction of A. N. Tupolev on a modern twin-engine medium bomber. After testing prototypes with various powerplants, the variant with ASz-82 radial engines was chosen for mass production. Tu-2 aircraft took an active part in combat operations on many fronts of World War II, including the Byelorussian and Ukrainian Fronts, and in the fighting against Japanese forces in the Far East. After the war, the design continued to be developed, serving in many countries, including the Polish bomber aviation in the years 1950-1957.
