The G506 series trucks, to which the G7106 model belongs, were produced by Chevrolet Motor Division of GM and were a key element of military logistics for the United States during World War II. They were light to medium trucks with four-wheel drive, serving both the American army and its allies.

During World War II, the American army purchased a total of 167,373 1.5-ton 4x4 trucks, most of which were supplied by Chevrolet. These trucks were used by the US Army and Army Air Corps as standard transport vehicles. Approximately 47,700 trucks of the G7107 and G7117 models were sent to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease program. This program significantly improved the logistics and transport capabilities of the Red Army in 1943, which had a substantial impact on the course of military operations on the Eastern Front.
