History and significance of the vehicle: The Jeep GPW, produced by Ford, was one of the two main models of light off-road vehicles used by the armed forces of the USA and their allies during World War II. Along with the Willys MB model, the Jeep GPW became a symbol of mobility and versatility on the battlefield. Between 1941 and 1945, over 600,000 units of these vehicles were produced, making them the most widely produced off-road vehicles of that era.

The Jeep GPW was not only a reconnaissance vehicle but also served many other functions, from transporting soldiers to towing light artillery. Its design was robust and reliable enough to earn a reputation as an almost indestructible vehicle. General Dwight D. Eisenhower considered it one of the five key pieces of equipment that contributed to the success of the Allies in Europe and Africa.
