Plastic military model kit: US Heavy Wrecker Ward Lafrance Model 1000 - Series 2 1:35 Thunder Models 35010
Vehicle history: The Ward LaFrance Truck Corporation, founded by Addison Ward LaFrance in 1916 in Elmira Heights, NY, was a well-known American manufacturer of trucks and fire equipment. During World War II, the company supplied over 5,000 trucks for war needs. The M1 model, a 10-ton heavy wrecker 6×6 with a 6-cylinder Continental engine, was one of the key vehicles produced by Ward LaFrance and Kenworth from 1941 to 1945. The first M1 type, standardized in July 1941, used cabs made of metal modeled after civilian vehicles. In the later version, the M1A1, produced from 1943, an open cab with a folding canvas roof was used.
The M1 series was produced in five different models (Series 1, Series 2, Series 3, Series 4, and Series 5). The Series 2 model, introduced in 1942, featured an added rear winch and improvements and additions to the crane compared to Series 1. A total of 562 Series 2 wreckers were produced, with later versions equipped with a reinforced front bumper with mounting brackets.
