At the beginning of the conflict, most American helicopters in Vietnam were transport machines. However, over time, the importance of fire support helicopters increased, leading to a significant rise in their numbers. By the 1970s, the number of helicopters in Vietnam exceeded the number of all military helicopters in the world. In some months, their flight numbers reached 800,000, with each helicopter making 8-9 flights a day.
