We present the plastic model kit of the American aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) in 1:700 scale, produced by Meng. This detailed model allows for the recreation of one of the most famous ships of the United States Navy from World War II. The USS Lexington, also known as "Lady Lex," was one of the first aircraft carriers in the history of the American fleet and played a key role in the development of carrier tactics.

History of USS Lexington (CV-2):

The USS Lexington (CV-2) was originally designed as a Lexington-class battlecruiser, but due to the provisions of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, which halted the construction of new battleships and battlecruisers, it was converted into an aircraft carrier. It was commissioned in 1928 and throughout its career was assigned to the Pacific Fleet. Along with its sister ship USS Saratoga, Lexington was used to develop and refine carrier tactics in a series of annual exercises before World War II.

The USS Lexington became famous for several significant operations, including providing humanitarian aid to Nicaragua after the earthquake in 1931 and participating in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942. During this battle, Lexington and Yorktown managed to sink the Japanese light carrier Shōhō, but the Lexington itself was severely damaged by Japanese aircraft and ultimately had to be sunk by an American destroyer to prevent it from being captured by the enemy.

The USS Lexington was discovered in 2018 by the research vessel RV Petrel, funded by Paul Allen. The wreck lies at a depth of 3000 meters, about 800 kilometers east of the Queensland coast. This discovery has allowed for a better understanding of the history of this legendary ship and its role in World War II.
