Description
Plastic model aircraft kit: US Navy Fighter F3F-2 1:48 Academy 12326
The Grumman F3F-2 is a single-seat carrier-based fighter that went down in history as the last biplane produced by the Grumman corporation and the last machine of this type to serve in the ranks of the US Navy. The 1:48 scale model from Academy allows for a detailed reproduction of this classic interwar construction.
The F3F-2 version was a development of the earlier F3F-1 model, equipped with a much more powerful 950 HP Wright R-1820-22 Cyclone engine. This change necessitated a modification of the front fuselage, which gave the machine its characteristic, stout appearance. These aircraft formed the backbone of US Navy fighter squadrons until early 1940, operating from the decks of aircraft carriers such as the USS Enterprise (CV-6), USS Wasp (CV-7), and USS Saratoga (CV-7).
Kit characteristics:- Precise moldings in light gray plastic.
- Transparent parts for the cockpit glazing.
- Photo-etched sheet with details (including engine and interior parts).
- Sheet of masks to facilitate painting.
- High-quality decals with markings for three units: VF-6 "Fighting Six" (USS Enterprise), VF-7 (USS Wasp), and a training center.
- Maximum speed: 425 km/h.
- Climb rate: 14 m/s.
- Maximum ceiling: 10120 m.
- Maximum range: 1600 km.
- Armament: 1 x 7.62 mm machine gun, 1 x 12.7 mm machine gun, and up to 104 kg of bombs.
The kit offers the possibility of building the model in striking liveries from the so-called "Yellow Wings" period, characterized by bright wing and tail colors, making it a unique item in the collection of any aviation modeler.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. To assemble, you will need separately sold modeling tools (e.g., nippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
