Plastic model aircraft kit: USAAF C-47 Skytrain 1:144 Academy 12633
The Douglas C-47 Skytrain, also known as the Dakota, is one of the most iconic American transport aircraft from World War II. This design was the military adaptation of the extremely successful Douglas DC-3 civilian airliner. The C-47 prototype took to the air on December 23, 1941, and mass production began in January 1942, resulting in over 10,000 units built by the end of 1945.
The aircraft featured an all-metal construction and was powered by two Pratt-Whitney R-1830-92 engines, each producing 1200 HP. The C-47 played a key role on all fronts of the war, serving to transport supplies, evacuate the wounded, drop paratroopers, and tow transport gliders. After the war ended, thousands of these machines went to the civilian market, laying the foundation for modern air transport worldwide.
The kit allows for the construction of the model in one of five historical liveries:
- USAAF C-47 42-32832 "Sky King", 53rd Troop Carrier Sqn, June 6, 1944 (D-Day);
- USAAF C-47 42-92847, 87th Troop Carrier Sqn, 438th Troop Carrier Group, June 6, 1944 (D-Day);
- USAAF C-47 42-32836 "Smilin Jack", 903rd Medical Air Evacuation Transport Sqn, 1943;
- ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Force) C-47 "CODE ONE", 1953;
- RAF Dakota Mk I KG496, 267 Pegasus Sqn, Desert Air Force, Egypt 1942.
The product is officially licensed by Boeing.
