Plastic model kit: USS Essex 1:700 Hasegawa WL707
Plastic model kit depicting the USS Essex (CV-9) - an American aircraft carrier that became the lead ship of the most numerous class of heavy aircraft carriers in US Navy history. This ship played a key role in the fighting in the Pacific during World War II.
Historical Background:
USS Essex was commissioned in December 1942. Essex-class ships formed the core of American strike forces, combining high operational speed with the powerful firepower of their embarked air groups (from 80 to 100 aircraft). The design featured an hangar suspended below the flight deck, which facilitated repairs of battle damage. USS Essex participated in the most important operations of the war, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf and supported the landings on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After modernization, it also served in the Korean War and participated in the blockade of Cuba during the missile crisis.
Model Characteristics:
- Scale: 1:700
- Series: Water Line ( waterline model)
- The set includes miniatures of deck aircraft that can be placed on the flight deck.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are required (including nippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
