Original ship:
USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73) was an American Casablanca-class escort carrier that served during World War II. This ship went down in history primarily due to its heroic stance during the Battle off Samar in October 1944. It was the only American aircraft carrier sunk by the artillery fire of Japanese battleships during this campaign. Casablanca-type units were mass-produced to provide air support for convoys and amphibious operations in the Pacific.
The use of photo-etched parts significantly raises the level of detail of the model, giving it a professional look, especially in such a demanding scale as 1:350.
