History of USS Missouri:
USS Missouri, also known as "Mighty Mo," was an Iowa-class battleship built for the United States Navy in the 1940s. It was the last battleship to enter service in the US Navy. Its construction began in 1941 at the New York Naval Shipyard, and it was commissioned in 1944.
USS Missouri played a crucial role in the final stages of World War II. It participated in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, as well as bombarding the Japanese home islands. However, it is most famous for being the site where, on September 2, 1945, the Japanese surrender was signed, officially ending World War II.
After the war, USS Missouri participated in various diplomatic and training missions. From 1950 to 1953, it took part in the Korean War, serving as the flagship and participating in numerous shore bombardment operations against North Korea.
As part of the "600-Ship Navy" plan, USS Missouri was modernized in the 1980s. Modern weapon systems were added, including Tomahawk and Harpoon missile launchers. The battleship participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, where it supported coalition forces in the Persian Gulf.
After decommissioning, USS Missouri was converted into a museum ship and is currently docked at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. It is a popular tourist attraction, visited by thousands of people each year.
