Plastic model kit: USS Ticonderoga 1:700 Hasegawa WL710
Plastic model kit depicting the American aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) in 1:700 scale. This unit belongs to the famous Water Line series, which means the model is adapted for presentation on a flat surface imitating the water surface (waterline model).
History of the original:
USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) was an American aircraft carrier, laid down in February 1943. It was the twelfth Essex-class aircraft carrier and the first unit of the extended hull subtype (so-called "long-hull"). Ships of this subtype were characterized by reinforced anti-aircraft armament and a modified bow, which was intended to improve seaworthiness and allow for the installation of additional firing positions. USS Ticonderoga took an active part in the fighting in the Pacific, supporting operations in the Philippines and attacks on Japanese shipping in the Taiwan area. In February 1945, the ship was seriously damaged by two kamikaze attacks, but after repairs, it returned to service, participating, among others, in the Japanese surrender ceremony in Tokyo Bay. After World War II, the unit also served during the conflicts in Korea and Vietnam, undergoing numerous modernizations to adapt it to operate jet aircraft.
