History and significance of the Vickers E tank:
The Vickers E, also known as the Vickers Mark E or Vickers 6-Ton, was designed in 1928 by the British company Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd. This tank was primarily produced for export and became one of the most widely used tanks in the world before World War II, right after the Renault FT-17. Its design was so innovative that it became the basis for many other models, such as the Soviet T-26 and the Polish 7TP.
In the single turret version, the tank was armed with a short-barreled 47 mm gun, coupled with a machine gun. This solution, known as duplex mounting, allowed for simultaneous aiming of both weapons using the same sights. The tank's armor consisted of rolled plates with a thickness of 13 mm on the front and sides of the hull and turret, 8 mm at the rear of the hull, while the top and bottom had a thickness of 5 mm. The tank was powered by an Armstrong-Siddeley engine with an output of about 80 HP, air-cooled. The innovative suspension consisted of two spring-loaded units on each side, providing smooth driving.
The Vickers E tank was used by many countries, including Poland, the USSR, Finland, China, Siam, Greece, Bolivia, Bulgaria, and others. In Poland, after purchasing 38 tanks, it became the basis for the development of its own 7TP tank. In the USSR, over 12,000 T-26 tanks were produced based on the Vickers E, which were used in many armed conflicts.
