History and background of the Weserflug P.1003 project:
The Weserflug P.1003 was one of the most innovative aviation projects developed by the Germans in the 1930s. Designed in 1938 by the Weserflug company, the aircraft was intended to be a two-seat military machine with a tilting rotor, capable of vertical takeoff and landing. This project received support from the Ministry of Aviation, indicating its potential significance for the German armed forces.
The aircraft featured a rather conventional fuselage with high-mounted wings that could be tilted halfway along their length. At the end of each wing was a propeller with an impressive diameter of 4 meters, which was unusual compared to other aircraft where propellers typically had a diameter of about 2 meters. A single Daimler-Benz DB 600 engine was placed in the center of the fuselage, and drive shafts connected it to the propellers.
One of the most innovative aspects of the P.1003 project was the ability to rotate the entire outer part of the wing by 90 degrees during takeoff. This allowed the propellers to be directed straight up, enabling the aircraft to lift off the ground in a manner similar to a helicopter. After gaining altitude, the wings and propellers would be rotated to a horizontal position, allowing for a transition to horizontal flight.
Unfortunately, the complexity of the VTOL system and the technical challenges associated with its realization meant that the aircraft was never built. Nevertheless, the Weserflug P.1003 project remains a fascinating example of engineering creativity and the pursuit of innovation during difficult wartime conditions.
Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
