Plastic model aircraft kit: Westland Lysander Mk.I/Mk.III 1:48 Airfix 07116
The Westland Lysander was one of the most distinctive British aircraft of World War II, designed as a modern solution for the army in reconnaissance, observation, and artillery fire correction. Its exceptional Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) capabilities made it an ideal choice for operations from makeshift airfields. Although these machines suffered heavy losses in clashes with Luftwaffe fighters early in the war, the Lysander gained legendary fame thanks to secret night missions. Used by the Special Operations Executive (SOE), it transported agents to occupied France, landing in small fields guided only by the light of torches.
This 1:48 scale model offers modelers a wide range of assembly options:
- Possibility to assemble the cockpit glazing in the open or closed position, allowing for the display of fuselage interior details.
- Wings with the option of open or closed leading-edge slats and lowered flaps.
- Landing gear with a choice of wheel fairings or exposed wheels.
- Optional bomb racks along with a full bomb load.
- The set contains 171 precisely made parts.
The set includes two painting schemes:
- Westland Lysander Mk.I, No. 16 Squadron, RAF Old Sarum, Wiltshire, England, May 1938.
- Westland Lysander Mk.III, No. 309 (Polish) Reconnaissance Squadron, RAF Renfrew, Scotland, 1940.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. To assemble, you need separately sold modeling tools (including nippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
