The Westland Wessex HC.2 is a British multi-role helicopter, which is a licensed, turbine-powered version of the American Sikorsky S-58 Choctaw design. The Wessex played a key role in aviation history as one of the first machines to prove its indispensable value in both military and civilian applications.

The HC.2 version was developed specifically for the needs of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and entered service in 1962. Within the RAF, these robust machines performed a wide range of tasks: from transporting troops and supplies, through ground support, to medical evacuation. However, they gained the most fame through their service in Air Sea Rescue units, where their reliability saved lives in the most difficult weather conditions.
