Historical description of Char B1:

The Char B1 was a French heavy tank, whose production began before World War II. Originally designed as a self-propelled gun with a 75 mm howitzer in the hull, it was later equipped with a turret with a 47 mm gun, allowing it to serve as a battle tank. This tank was intended to support infantry and fight against enemy armored vehicles.

The development and production of the Char B1 were repeatedly delayed, resulting in a technologically complex and costly vehicle. By the time mass production of the Char B1 "bis" version began in the late 1930s, this tank was already outdated. Nevertheless, the Char B1 was one of the most heavily armed and armored tanks of its time. In 1940, during the Battle of France, it proved effective in direct confrontations with German tanks, but its low speed and high fuel consumption made it unsuitable for dynamic maneuver warfare.

After France's defeat, the Char B1 (bis) tanks captured by the Germans were used by the Wehrmacht, and some were converted into flamethrowers, ammunition vehicles, or mechanized artillery.
