History of the Somua S35 tank: The Somua S35 was one of the most modern French tanks during the interwar period and at the beginning of World War II. It was designed as a cavalry tank, meaning it was intended to be fast and maneuverable while also being well-armored. Equipped with a 47 mm gun and a machine gun, the Somua S35 was capable of effectively fighting German tanks in the early months of the war.

This tank was praised for its durability and combat capability; however, its production was limited due to the complicated manufacturing process and high costs. A total of about 430 units of this tank were produced. The Somua S35 participated in battles during the French campaign in 1940, where it demonstrated great effectiveness in clashes with German armored forces.

After France's defeat, many of these tanks were seized by the Germans and used by them in various roles, including as training vehicles and for occupation tasks. These tanks were also used by the Free French forces and in campaigns in North Africa.
