History of the Afrika Korps:

The Afrika Korps was formed in February 1941 in response to British successes in North Africa. Under the command of General Erwin Rommel, this unit quickly gained a reputation for its tactical skills and ability to conduct mobile warfare in the desert. Rommel, with his unconventional command methods and ability to quickly respond to changing conditions, became one of the most famous commanders of World War II.

The Afrika Korps participated in many key battles, including the Battle of Gazala and the First Battle of El Alamein. Despite initial successes, logistical difficulties, the numerical superiority of the Allies, and supply problems ultimately led to the defeat of the Afrika Korps at the Battle of El Alamein in November 1942. After this defeat, German forces in North Africa gradually withdrew until their final surrender in May 1943.
