Description
Plastic figure kit for assembly and painting: WWII British Paratroops 1:32 Airfix 02701V
A set of 1:32 scale figures depicting soldiers of the British 1st Airborne Division from the World War II period. The package contains 14 plastic figures that allow for the recreation of elite parachute units, recognizable by their characteristic maroon berets and Pegasus patches on their shoulders.
The product comes from the Vintage Classics series, which means it is a re-release of a classic Airfix set. The molds for this model were originally developed in 1972, and the box artwork by William Stallion also refers to the original from that period.
Historical Background:The British 1st Airborne Division was formed in December 1940 on the orders of Winston Churchill, who was greatly impressed by the effectiveness of the German paratroopers during the fighting in Crete. The symbol of the formation became Bellerophon riding the winged horse Pegasus. British paratroopers took part in the most important operations of World War II, including:
- Fighting in North Africa (1942-1943)
- The landings in Sicily and Southern Italy (1943)
- Operation Overlord in Normandy (1944)
- Operation Market Garden near Arnhem (1944)
- Crossing the Rhine (1945)
- Scale: 1:32
- Number of figures: 14 pieces
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are required (including nippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
