History and characteristics of the vehicle:
The Bedford MW was one of the most important military vehicles used by the British armed forces during World War II. Designed as a general-purpose truck, the Bedford MW was primarily used by British army infantry battalions, but over time it also found application in other formations, such as the Royal Air Force (RAF), the Royal Navy, and various government departments. This vehicle was also exported to some foreign clients.
Despite lacking four-wheel drive, which limited its off-road capabilities, the Bedford MW stood out with a powerful engine, a short wheelbase, a low center of gravity, and relatively light weight, which provided it with excellent acceleration and almost sporty handling.
The first MW models were equipped with an open cab with a folding windshield and a folding canvas roof. From 1943, a closed cab with doors and side screens made of plexiglass was introduced, while still retaining the canvas roof. A characteristic feature of the vehicle was its wide hood, designed to accommodate a special large air filter, which ultimately was not installed in production vehicles.
Production of the Bedford MW began in 1939 and ended in 1945, with a total number of units produced exceeding 66,000. These vehicles remained in British service until the late 1950s.
