USS Enterprise (CV-6) – Historical background:

USS Enterprise, also known as "The Big E", was the seventh ship of that name in the United States Navy and one of three Yorktown-class aircraft carriers that survived World War II. Launched in 1936, it was one of the most important ships in the history of the American fleet. Enterprise participated in many key battles, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Solomon Islands, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

During the attack on Pearl Harbor, 18 Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers from the Enterprise air group reached the harbor, becoming the first American aircraft to suffer losses in that battle. Enterprise earned 20 battle stars, making it the most decorated warship of the U.S. during World War II. Its aircraft and guns shot down 911 enemy planes, sank 71 ships, and damaged or destroyed 192 others.

After the war, despite attempts to convert Enterprise into a museum ship, it was scrapped between 1958 and 1960. However, many of its artifacts survived, including the ship's bell, which is located at the United States Naval Academy, and the ship's nameplate, which is displayed in River Vale, New Jersey.

Successors of Enterprise:

The name Enterprise was revived in 1958 when the keel was laid for the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which also bore the nickname "Big E". This ship served for 51 years, and its successor, CVN-80, will carry the same name, continuing the legacy of one of the most famous ships in the history of the U.S. Navy.

Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
