Characteristics and history of the vehicle:
Sd.Kfz. 231 8-Rad is a German heavy armored car that was part of a series of eight-wheeled armored vehicles used by Germany during World War II. These vehicles were primarily intended for reconnaissance tasks, serving as the "eyes and ears" of German mechanized units. Due to its speed and maneuverability, the Sd.Kfz. 231 8-Rad was an ideal tool for long-distance reconnaissance, especially in the vast desert terrains of North Africa.
The first six-wheeled versions (6-Rad) were introduced into service in 1932, but over time they were replaced by more advanced eight-wheeled versions (8-Rad), which began to appear in 1937. The Sd.Kfz. 231 8-Rad was used in many campaigns, including in Poland, France, the USSR, and North Africa. Although this vehicle was not designed to engage heavily armored units, its main task was reconnaissance and protecting the crew from small arms fire.
