- Manufacturer: First To Fight
- Catalog number: PL054
History and characteristics of the vehicle:
Sd.Kfz 223 was one of a series of light armored cars that played a significant role in the reconnaissance operations of the German army. This vehicle, based on the Horch 108 chassis, was equipped with a frame antenna and a medium-range radio station FuG 10, making it ideal for communication and reconnaissance tasks. In later versions, an improved FuG 12 radio station with a power of 80 watts was used.
Sd.Kfz 223 was armed with a MG 13 machine gun, which was replaced in 1938 by the more modern MG 34. The vehicle was operated by a three-person crew consisting of a driver, a commander, and a radio operator. Production of this model lasted from 1936 to January 1944, with at least 567 units produced.
Combat application:
Sd.Kfz 223 was mainly used by reconnaissance battalions of armored divisions. Its design allowed for effective operation in countries with a well-developed road network, such as those in Western Europe. However, in more challenging conditions, such as the Eastern Front or the deserts of North Africa, its off-road performance was limited.
