History of the Hs 123A-1 aircraft: The Hs 123A-1 aircraft was developed at the request of the German Ministry of Aviation in 1933 as a specialized dive bomber. The prototype, designated Hs-123 V1, made its first flight in the spring of 1935, and its design received positive reviews. Serial production of the Hs 123A-1 version began in September 1936.
The aircraft was powered by a BMW 132 engine with a power output of 880 horsepower. Its armament consisted of two synchronized machine guns mounted behind the instrument panel, firing through special channels in the engine cowling. The lower wing, equipped with flaps, had four mounting points for bombs weighing 50 kg, and one 250 kg bomb could be mounted under the fuselage.
Combat use: At the beginning of World War II, Hs 123A-1s were used during the invasion of Poland, and later in France and the Balkans, where they demonstrated great resilience to anti-aircraft fire, even when hit directly. Later, these aircraft participated in Luftwaffe operations against the Soviet Union. Despite their outdated design, Hs 123A-1 remained in service with the German Air Force until 1944.
