History and background of the Myōkō ship:
Myoko was the first heavy cruiser built by Japan as part of the fleet modernization program from 1922 to 1929, in accordance with the limitations imposed by the Washington Naval Treaty. The ship was designed by Vice Admiral Yuzuru Hiraga, who managed to maintain the stability of the structure despite numerous modifications and the addition of equipment.
Myoko was armed with ten 20 cm/50 3rd Year Type guns, making it one of the heaviest armed cruisers in the world at that time. The ship participated in many key battles, such as the Battle of the Java Sea, the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
Fate after the war:
After sustaining damage in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Myoko was sent to Singapore for repairs, which were not completed due to a lack of materials. Ultimately, Myoko was converted into a floating anti-aircraft battery and survived the war. The ship formally surrendered to the Royal Navy on September 21, 1945, and was subsequently sunk in the Malacca Strait on July 8, 1946.
